The Makeup Show NYC 2012

Yesterday I attended the Makeup Show at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. I created a list of items I wanted to purchase for my kit, at the top of my list was was the coveted Zuca bag! I passed on purchasing the Zuca because they were’nt offering a pro discount. Next up was one of my favorite brands MAKE UP FOREVER. While I didn’t actually want to purchase anything from the brand my goal was to be approved for their Backstage Pass. Being a bit of an over achiever I came equipped with any and every piece of proof that I’m a working makeup artist. Needless to say I was approved!!!!!!
The absolute highlight of my day has to be meeting Crystal Wright. I’ve been reading Crystal’s book for a few months now (not because I’m slow, it’s a reference guide). I recommend anyone who is an aspiring or working makeup artist, hairstylist, fashion stylist to pick up a copy of The Hair, Makeup, and Fashion Styling Career Guide I’ll be sure to post the link below. Over the next week or so I’ll be reviewing my purchases including Skindinavia Setting Spray, Nurturing Force Blot Out Offensive, Graftobian foundation, and more. The only items I purchased that I’m leery about are Crown Brushes. Every Year I attend the show Crown Brush’s booth is mayhem! I managed to bust through the crowd to pick up a few but I’m unsure of the quality. I won’t judge too quickly they may actually surprise me!

Picture Perfect Makeup
1. FOCUS- Choose one feature to focus on, whether its flawless skin, a bold lip, or sultry smokey eyes, choose one feature to really focus on to prevent the face from looking cluttered. This does NOT mean you have to neglect other areas of your face.
2. GROOM your brows! Whether you have a full or sparse brow you can benefit from cleaning up you brow . Quick Tip: Brush your brows straight up to get a clear view of your shape then shape them.
3. HIGHLIGHT AND CONTOUR- Remember foundation is one flat color unlike our natural skin. Ever wonder why you look so flat once you apply foundation? You have to add dimension and enhance the planes of your face again.
5. BLEND BLEND BLEND- No matter what area of the face your apply makeup to make sure it’s well blended. Quick Tip: Snap a picture with your cell phone (flash on) to see what area’s you’ve missed then go back and correct them.
